Recently awarded the International Hotel & Restaurant Association's Environmental Award for Sustainability, the Willard InterContinental in Washington D.C. has embarked on a Sustainability program entitled, "Willard InterContinental - The Next 100 Years." The holistic plan is comprised of numerous interwoven sustainable projects designed for a luxurious urban hospitality experience in harmony with social and ecological consciousness. The Willard is powered by 100% wind energy -- the first luxury hotel in the United States to power in this sustainable manner.
A grand historic landmark hotel, the Willard InterContinental Washington combines heritage and luxury with contemporary comfort and modern technologies. The hotel offers 332 guest rooms, including 40 suites, Known as the "Crown Jewel of Pennsylvania Avenue", or the "Grand Dame of American Hotels", the Willard InterContinental is just two blocks from the White House. It was at the Willard that Julia Ward Howe wrote The Battle Hymn of the Republic and where Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King wrote his renowned I Have A Dream speech.
Located on the 2nd floor of the hotel, The I Spa at the Willard provides guests with a rejuvenating experience offering 25 diverse treatments, each one designed to pamper the guest and delight the senses. The I Spa at the Willard offers 11 different massages from the traditional (Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports, Shiatsu) to the more specialized (Couples, Reflexology, Pregnancy). Body treatments will feature products designed by Jurlique, Algotherm and June Jacobs. Spa Packages are available and have been tailored to pamper brides, couples, and men and women and include use of sauna, steam room, fitness center, personal care amenities, robes and slippers. The fitness center has 24-hour access with room key and is complementary to guests. A healthy spa lunch fare and personal training sessions are available. The spa is open daily.
It's good to see that the Willard is so Eco-conscious! I do wonder whether their sustainable wind energy is powered by Congress!
Joking aside, it's important to do everything possible to promote hotel sustainability programs. Finding such hotels has become much easier to accomplish with the advent of websites specific to that purpose.
One such dedicated "Green" web site, iStayGreen.org, is helping to make environmentally friendly lodging easy to find and book.
